Together with the Max-Delbrueck-Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC, Berlin, Germany) and the Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron (DESY, Hamburg, Germany), the DKFZ will implement and operate the Helmholtz Imaging Platform (HIP). Within this platform, the Applied Computer Vision group was established at DKFZ to support Helmholtz researchers in the development of custom AI-powered image analysis algorithms. Together with the other partners in HIP, the group drives and promotes synergies across the entire imaging pipeline at different scales in space and time including a versatile range of modalities and applications within the Helmholtz Association.

Description:
We are looking for three excellent machine learning engineers with a passion for building AI solutions in the field of computer vision. The Applied Computer Vision group covers a broad range of activities including consulting in and development of automatic image analysis solutions as well as semi-supervised learning scenarios. The activities include the whole process from initial data preparation up to the standardized evaluation of algorithms in international competitions.

The positions come with the opportunity to broaden your expertise to the full breadth of thrilling research applications in the Helmholtz Association, ranging from aeronautics to deep-sea research, from astronomy to particle physics and from medical applications to climate research. Typical projects of our unit involve tight collaboration with various of these application domains in order to identify and adapt the best-matching state-of-the-art computer vision solutions to the specific problem at hand.

The unit is tightly woven into the scientific infrastructure of the DKFZ and the HIP platform. This ensures a close connection to the most recent scientific developments in the field. Our HIP partners in Heidelberg include the upcoming HIP young investigator group ‘Interactive Machine Learning’, the Division of Computer Assisted Medical Interventions and the Division of Medical Image Computing.
