Data Engineer at Mercell Holding AS (Oslo, Norway)

Are you passionate about data? Up for experimenting with sophisticated data collection processes including batching and streaming, automation of data pipelines and more? Mercell is hiring Data Engineers!

Who are you?

As our Data Engineer you will work with like-minded people developing our new data platform. We select technology based on what we believe will be right for us in the future – our technology choices so far reflect this. You will be a key contributor to defining the path forward and have a central role in continued development of the platform.

As a leading provider of e-tendering services, Mercell’s two-sided SaaS platform caters to both buyers and suppliers, with software solutions ensuring that buyers comply with EU regulations requiring tender announcements on e-tendering platforms, and that the suppliers are notified of all relevant opportunities. In the past 2 years, Mercell has achieved a strong organic growth with a string of acquisitions in the Nordic and European region.

As we grow, our need to adapt, consolidate and process ever more data has become clear. In 2019, Mercell Group developed a new Data Strategy that focuses on transforming itself into a truly data-driven organisation. To accomplish this, we are building a Data engineering team tasked with understanding, structuring, enriching all available data, dedicated to empowering stakeholders across departments with data intelligence.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Partner with product managers, engineers and data analysts to understand data needs.
  • Contribute in setting Mercell data strategy and integration patterns
  • Design and implement the end-to-end automation of data pipelines, both for real-time and batch processing, making datasets, big and small amounts, readily-consumable by visualisation tools and analysis tools.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for the data structure and usage.
  • Build and maintain, as well as optimize and tune, machine learning data processing pipelines as Mercell matures as a data-driven company in the future.
  • Develop and apply best practice methods to keep the data secure and the use of data compliant with regulatory and customer requirements, eg. GDPR
  • Use best practices in engineering practise and communicate the best development practices within the organization (i.e. code reviews, unit testing, re-usable design patterns etc.)

Requirements

  • Experienced in Data Engineering or related field with a track record of transforming, processing, and extracting value.
  • Experienced using Cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure and GCP.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Pragmatic and understanding of the tradeoffs between the perfect solution and a working solution.
  • Curious, responsible and reflective in that you want to understand the full picture and manage the involved risks within predefined boundaries. You are not afraid to seek advice when insecure.

We strongly value if you have:

  • Knowledge of Kafka
  • Experience using analysis tooling or business intelligence reporting tooling such as Tableau, PowerBI or Qlik Sense.
  • Experience with Machine learning is a bonus
