Back End Software Engineer (Data) at eBay Classifieds Group (Amsterdam, Netherlands)

About the team:

You will be part of a data-heavy, multidisciplinary team that focuses on creating data products that have a big impact. Together with your colleagues, you tackle challenges from start to finish. Examples of these could be how to optimise the search experience of our users, or improving the recommendations on our homepage.

What we expect from you:

The person we are looking for has extensive experience in software development in online or related areas, with at least 6+ years of full-time employment with knowledge of what it means to work with large and/or distributed systems.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to influence a multi-functional team to deliver results
  • Experience in backend development (Java and/or Scala)
  • Experience in e-commerce or high traffic/distributed systems
  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Experience with search engine optimization or real-time machine learning model deployment is a plus!

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Be a key team member in development and design of new products
  • Coaching of less experienced developers (be a mentor helping with skills development)
  • Collaborate with your teammates and other teams on architecture decisions and solution design
  • Help to continuously improve development work in all areas (coding, processes, tools, testing, etc.)
  • Responsible for the maintenance and stability of the backend infrastructure
  • Work with international counterparts across the worldwide eBay Classifieds Group

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of another language like js, or Kotlin
